The need

Why it matters.

Many students arrive at school hungry, which makes it hard to concentrate. Schools also struggle to pay for repairs once donors move on. A productive school farm helps with both.

In beta and research. Our permaculture program is still being researched and piloted with our partner schools and Thirsty Earth. We will share results as we learn — and scale what works.
“Donors rarely fund projects indefinitely.”Why every school we partner with plans its own income — DWF Field Assessment

Our approach

What we do.

Permaculture gardens

Organic, low-cost practices like mulching, crop rotation and companion planting — no expensive chemicals.

School agri-business

Selling surplus crops at the village market to pay for school maintenance. Our cassava is planted for a cassava processing business, and a poultry business is coming soon.

Water for farming

Rainwater tanks and reservoirs that water crops year-round.

Living classrooms

Gardens where students learn biology, math and entrepreneurship hands-on.

Learning to grow, right at school.

Our permaculture pilot has started. Students learn to prepare garden beds, plant in rows and care for crops, guided by a farming instructor. Raised garden beds are going in too, and the school's own crop field shows what's possible.
