Teach robotics in Africa.

Volunteer with Dreamers Wish Foundation and teach robotics, coding and STEM to students in Ghana and Kenya — working side by side with local teachers, not in place of them.

Why teach robotics here

The students are ready. The robots are waiting.

In the Volta Region of Ghana and on Kenya's Kilifi Coast, students are curious, capable and hungry to learn — but most have never touched a robot, written a line of code, or met an engineer.

Dreamers Wish Foundation brings VEX robotics kits, laptops and hands-on STEAM workshops directly into partner schools. As a volunteer, you don't need to be an engineer. You need patience, curiosity and a willingness to learn alongside the students — because that's how we work: with communities, never for them.

Our approach is partnership. Local teachers lead the classroom. You support, encourage and build — and you leave knowing the skills stay behind with the students and teachers who use them every day.

Where you'll teach

  • Ghana · Volta Region — Dadome D.A. Basic School and partner schools near Mepe, with a STEAM/ICT lab (Starlink internet arriving July 2027)
  • Kenya · Kilifi Coast — Mijomboni Primary School, with a growing computer and STEM lab

Dreamers Wish Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 87-1835814) holding Candid's Platinum Seal of Transparency, serving 8,000+ young people across Utah, Ghana and Kenya since 2021.

What you'll actually do

A week that looks like this.

Every trip mixes teaching with building, culture and celebration.

Teach robotics & coding

Lead hands-on sessions with VEX robotics kits: building, block coding and simple engineering challenges, adapted for first-time learners.

Co-teach with local teachers

Plan lessons together with Ghanaian and Kenyan educators. They know their students — you bring fresh energy and an extra pair of hands.

Run STEAM workshops

Science demos, math games, art-meets-engineering projects and computer basics in the school labs.

Improve the classrooms

Painting, repairs, desks and murals of hope — the learning environment matters as much as the lessons.

Join the culture

Naming ceremonies, traditional dance, local food and heritage tours — celebration is part of the curriculum.

Mentor, don't rescue

Encourage students to stay in school and dream bigger. The relationships outlast the trip.

Questions, answered

Before you pack your bags.

Do I need teaching or engineering experience to volunteer?

No. Most of our changemakers aren't teachers or engineers. You'll get an orientation, lesson plans and the support of local teachers who lead the classroom. What matters most is patience, flexibility and genuine respect for the community.

What robotics platform will we use?

We use VEX robotics kits — the same platform in our free Utah classes — plus laptops and hands-on STEAM materials. Everything is provided; you don't need to bring equipment.

How much does it cost to volunteer in Ghana?

The Ghana 2027 trip is $2,000 per person, all-inclusive except flights, with a $500 deposit to secure your spot. That covers lodging, meals, in-country transport, project materials and guided activities for all 11 days.

Is it safe to volunteer in Ghana?

Yes. Our Ghana country team plans all transport, lodging and schedules, and trip leaders are with the group every day. Ghana is widely considered one of West Africa's most stable and welcoming countries for visitors. See our health & travel guidance.

What ages are the students?

Our partner schools serve primary and junior-high students, roughly ages 6–15. Sessions are adapted for first-time learners — many students will be touching a robot for the first time.

Can I volunteer in Kenya instead?

Yes — our Kenya program at Mijomboni Primary School on the Kilifi Coast includes STEM workshops, classroom projects and tech lab support. Kenya trip dates are announced separately; RSVP on the trips page to hear first.
